Kansas Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics

Gardner Design, 2024
At Gardner Design, I rebranded the Kansas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (KAAP) and its sub-programs. KAAP is a professional community of pediatricians promoting the well-being of Kansas children and families through education, advocacy, networking, and service. The organization is the go-to resource for children’s health in Kansas. Pediatricians and others across the state look to KAAP for leadership, guidance, and training in addressing concerns that affect today’s kids.

In the redesigned logomark, the shape of a medical cross shines through the center negative space, highlighting KAAP’s focus on health and wellness. The icon is built from four converging, folded links, representing the intersection of doctors, patients, families, and resources—strengthening the healthcare community. Each link is vital for childhood well-being—by removing one, the symbol, and the overall picture of health, fall apart.⁣⁣

Each link in the design is folded, speaking to the strength of the bonds formed by KAAP. A single sheet of paper is flimsy and weak, but the more it is folded and reinforced, the stronger it becomes. This metaphor advocates that children need adequate support and reinforcement to grow into their strongest, healthiest selves. The same is true of the doctors who treat them—professionals need the proper support and resources to perform their best work.
The Kansas Pediatric Foundation is the charitable arm of KAAP, dedicated to empowering pediatricians and advancing child health across our state. The Foundation is dedicated to promoting child literacy, health, and well-being across Kansas by supporting the Kansas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and spearheading special initiatives.
The Turn a Page. Touch a Mind.® program emphasizes the critical role of reading to children and highlights the powerful influence healthcare providers have in encouraging families to establish consistent daily reading habits at home. This program supplies age-appropriate books for distribution to your patients and families to encourage sharing stories in the first five years of life.
The CARE (Child Abuse Review and Evaluation) Network exists to train, support, and empower physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to identify and address child abuse and neglect across Kansas.
Each sub-program logo was redesigned in the new brand language, comprised of the same ribbons found within the new primary mark. Care was taken to retain concepts from the original icons due to their emotional connection with the client.
